Tristan Stuetzel.

Founder & Director · Chico State, Class of '29 · First-Generation College Student

At 5 years old, I was taken by social services. My little brother was 1. We bounced from placement to placement — two kids with no certainty of where we'd end up, growing up in motels, not knowing what came next.

We got lucky. A family took us both in and gave us opportunities we couldn't have imagined. I can't give them enough credit. They changed our trajectory completely.

But we have another little brother who didn't come with us. He's still out there — one of the kids the system leaves behind. He's the reason Adoptare exists.

From a young age I was told I was different — that I wouldn't graduate high school, that I'd end up a statistic. I refused to believe it. I broke the cycle. I'm now a 19-year-old first-generation college student at Chico State, and everything I do is to prove to my brothers that we are not defined by what happened to us.

"We are not doomed by our story. It's our origin that defines us — and every foster kid and adoptee should be proud enough to wear it."

This is for my little brother David — we were told we'd never amount to anything. I need you to know that nothing we went through changes what we are capable of. Don't give up. This one's for you.

More Than Clothing.

Adoptare — To Adopt

Adoptare exists to empower adopted youth by providing scholarships funded through clothing initiatives. We believe that every young person deserves to step into their future with confidence, resources, and a community behind them.

We celebrate adoption as a core part of identity — not something to be hidden, but something to be worn with pride. Every piece you purchase directly funds educational opportunities for adoptees and foster kids nationwide.

Your origins matter. Your story is power.

Apply for the
David Scholarship.

The David Scholarship is named after my little brother David. We grew up being told we'd never amount to anything. This scholarship exists to prove that wrong — for him, and for every adoptee and foster youth who was told the same thing. Where you come from does not determine where you're going.

Scholarships are need-based and awarded to individuals who demonstrate financial need and a commitment to their education.
